I offer 1-to-1 online tutoring based in South Somerset and have a Physics BSc from the University of Southampton.

I specialise in the AQA and Edexcel exam boards, but can absolutely cover any recognised exam board given some advanced notice.

How it works

Each session is 1 hour long and takes place via Google Meet. Before our first session, I will ask you to let me know what exam board your curriculum is based on, and which topics you consider to be your strong and weak points within your chosen subject. We can then take one of the following approaches:

Option 1 - Personal Lesson Plan:

Based on the information you give me I will create a personal lesson plan for you that covers all areas of the current specification provided by your exam board. The lesson plan will be weighted towards the subject areas that you feel the least confident about (don't worry, we'll still cover the whole syllabus!)

For example, if you're super confident about your electricity module, but have no idea what I'm talking about when I say the particle model of matter, then I'll make sure to dedicate more sessions to the latter.

Option 2 - Student Led:

If you would rather not have a predetermined lesson plan that's totally fine! If that's the case, then I will get in touch with you before each session and ask what you'd like to cover. Maybe you've got a new piece of homework you need help with, or an exam coming up for which you need to focus on specific topics, or maybe you'd just rather use our sessions to recap the topics you learned that week!

Option 3 - Flexible Lesson Plan:

A bit of both! The tutoring sessions can be as flexible as you like, I'm more than happy to create an initial, structured lesson plan and then modify it if your needs change at all. Just get in touch with me before the session and I'll tailor the next lesson to your needs.

For example, if our next session was scheduled to be an overview of statistics, but you just got some mock exam results back and didn't do as well as you'd hoped, then I'll push that lesson back and we'll go over the exam together to figure out some areas to work on!

How Can I Tell I'm Making Progress?

At the end of the day, you want a tutor that's going to get you results. That's why it's important for us to have an effective method of tracking your progress throughout our sessions. At the start of your tutoring journey I'll ask you to send me any past papers/exams/mock exams that you've completed and had marked (if you haven't done any yet that's ok!). I'll look through these and map your marks against your exam board syllabus to get an idea of which topics need the most attention. Then, during our sessions we will work through past paper questions/textbook exercises that correspond with these modules. This gives us an easily comparable metric that both the student and parents can use to see the progress that we're making.

But test scores aren't everything, I will also regularly ask you how confident you are feeling with the modules that we are covering, and together we can compare your answers to those that you give me in the initial email. It's hard to overstate how much of a difference feeling confident in your ability makes!

Terms and Cancellation Policy

Cancellation Policy:

In the event that you need to cancel a session, please give me at least 24 hours' notice. We can then reschedule to a time that is more convenient for you. In the event that you would like to cancel the session entirely I would be more than happy to roll the credit over to the next session. If you would like to cancel the session entirely and do not want to roll the credit over to another session, please refer to the refund policy.

In the rare event that I need to reschedule due to illness or an emergency, I will give you as much notice as possible and your session credit will be rolled over immediately, or fully refunded - whichever you'd prefer.

Refund Policy:

If you cancel a session with more than 24 hours' notice and do not wish to reschedule or roll the credit over, a full refund for that session will be issued to your original payment method.

In the event of a late cancellation (less than 24 hours' notice), I will unfortunately not be able to offer a refund. This is due to the fact that your calendar slot is reserved exclusively for you, so I will not be able to fill that slot in less than 24 hours.

Late Policy:

In the event that a student is running late, we will unfortunately still need to conclude the session at the agreed upon time so that I am not late for my next student.

In the unlikely event that I am running late, however, I will endeavour to extend the session appropriately. If this is not possible, then I will make up the lost time in the following session.

If a student has not arrived within 30 minutes of the scheduled start time, the session will be treated as a late cancellation/no-show.

Booking & Payment Policy:

All sessions are booked via the calendar link - the "Book a Session" buttons - below and at the top of the page. Once your slot has been confirmed, your secure Stripe invoice will be emailed to you. To secure your slot, invoices must be cleared at least 24 hours prior to the scheduled session start time.

New student offers: the free 15-minute consultation and £5 introductory session offers are valid for new students only.

Note on prep time:

As a general rule, I will start preparing for your next session 24 hours prior in order to make sure that we can use all the time in your session efficiently, for this reason if you would like to make any changes to the lesson plan or need to request a specific topic, please let me know 24 hours in advance so I can get everything prepared!
